Is Netflix Killing My Happiness?

Last night after publishing my blog, I snuggled up in my bed, turned my light out and tapped on Netflix.  All the sudden season four of Riverdale was out!?  I was so pumped up so I quickly turned on the show and binge watched like six or seven episodes of the new season, literally draining my eyeballs of all liquids.  Everyday since quarantine I have been going on Netflix every night and watching things for hours and hours with no end at all in sight.  Even though this constant entertainment felt good and me feel good, was it actually healthy for my brain and my body to be doing this almost every night?  Hmmmm…..  About a year ago my best friend was obsessed with this chemical in the brain called dopamine and how certain things like entertainment, drugs, and activities affected and drained our dopamine receptors.  For beginners, dopamine is a feel good chemical.  Whenever you win the championship for baseball, dopamine is released.  During the first kiss, dopamine is released, but sometimes certain actions or things can drain that chemical and dull the “feel good” sensation in everything we do.  Drugs for example kill our dopamine receptors because most drugs are poison to the brain and disalter dopamine.  Entertainment like youtube, social media, etc. also drains our receptors because it is so accessible to everyone.  Right now I could go on my phone, open youtube, watch a video and get a little dopamine high.  This problem is called short term gratification.  Something so easy to get I could probably get it in a matter of seconds.  Long term gratification is dopamine that is released when a long term effort is made toward something and completed.  Our world is so obsessively complaced with short term gratification that we as a people have fried our receptors.  So tonight when you start your netflix binge try to lessen down that time and contribute something else in place of that.  For example work on getting that new job, or work on making that blog post etc..  Long term gratification, just think about it.  Oh but before you guys click off this blog make sure to follow my twitter because I post my whole life and interesting little blogs on there.  Go follow @TheRobDog3 right now!  Also make sure to subscribe and follow my blog to stay updated and it helps release my dopamine.  Robert out.

  1. In today's world social media detoxing is a must. I have a bad habit of checking my phone every 15 minutes. The blue light emitted by these devices is too harmful. People know about social media addictions but no one does anything about it.

Humans and Nature

There is this feeling I get when I am out in nature, something way different than anything, it is almost indescribable.  I always remember when me and my dad would drive two hours to a creek or a river and fish for the whole day. Those were some of the best moments with my dad, I mean I can describe the days super clear.  There was something I noticed, that even though I loved fishing, I think I enjoyed just being out in nature and relaxing and listening to the chirping of the birds and the flow of the river.  There was something so calming and relaxing to the whole place that I just wanted to stay forever.  Well, time went on and I got busy with school, sports, etc., and I was most of the time locked inside the whole day looking at words on a computer.  Then repeat this five times a week and that was my life.  On the weekends I would probably hangout with some friends, relax, sit back and watch some netflix, but I was always inside and stimulated, bes...

Doggie Love

Dogs are not just any animal, they have a sense of love and compassion in them that is so strong that humans just melt in front of them.  I was drinking my coffee this morning with my dog by my side looking out the window in my family room.  The rain was coming down ever so slightly, and me, my dog, and the rain just made me think and think.  I have had two beautiful dogs in my lifetime, a lab named buddy, and a lab/mutt mix named Jessie.  I received my first dog when I was around the age of 10, and I was so excited.  We went to the animal shelter to try to get a rescue dog, and this one beautiful dog just came up to my dad’s lap, laid its head right in it, and looked directly in his eyes.  He was so calm and loving that I knew this had to be the one, the dog I would love.  I loved him, and as I know he loved me, and that was really when I realized dogs were not just dogs.  Dogs are your best friend, literally!!  Whenever you come ho...
